Today was fun, a couple of boxes came in that had been hung up with the postal service for several days after their scheduled delivery date. Fortunately, boxes contained irisies, so likely all will be well though they are, uh, a lot browner than they would have been on their original delivery date.
I do have to say, iris people are pretty generous, sometimes ludicrously so. My first box was supposed to contain 7 irises and instead contained 24. My next box was supposed to contain 6 irises and 2 bonuses- instead contained 36 irises. Of course, I wasn't worried about it because I had plenty of dirt to temporarily pot up 15 SDB irises temporarily. Except, hahaha, received 60 irises. You really never know what will be in that box you open. I've had iris orders just be exactly what I ordered, or had a couple extras, or had triple what I ordered. And the SDB's are SMALL so you can't even really tell from the size of the box. A small box can have a lot of SDB's in it.
Anyhow, left a couple messages with people I've bought dirt from before in hopes of getting dirt, but, everyone is off and away for the holiday weekend. My pile of irises has all been spread out in seed trays and covered with the dirt that remained and watered. Unfortuantely, the bed they are going into is still solarizing. Our really cool spring has really extended how long this project is taking. Oh well, hopefully by Monday I'll have more dirt to pot them up properly. At least their roots are covered for now.
