Plant Hauls - Heirloom via Walmart - Honeysweet Rose

This was pretty interesting- I have been waiting for Honeysweet to come back in stock on the Heirloom site for awhile. In a moment of frustration, I did an internet search and was surprised to see it in stock to purchase from Heirloom through Walmart. It never showed as in stock on the Heirloom website, but did show up as available for purchase through Walmart. The plant shipped directly from Heirloom in Heirloom packaging- which I completely forgot to get a photo of.

Rose came mostly defoliated, but, some leaves must have emerged in box. Overall, it was a nice size plant in good condition. I don't often buy from Heirloom, I usually buy from places that sell more band-sized roses a bit cheaper- but they were the only ones left that had Honeysweet as Roses Unlimited sold out early in the season.

Packaging was interesting, there doesn't seem to be a pot. Instead the plant rootball has been placed in this compostable bag within a cardboard box. I've been watering it in this box for a few days as I should be able to plant it directly on the weekend without having to bother with using a pot in between. But, something to keep in mind if you will need to keep it potted for weeks before planting. You may want to make sure you have an extra pot around to pot yours up.

Shipping was free which was an advantage to buying through Walmart- however it appears you lose the warranty as it states that this is subject to a 30 day warranty through Walmart which is invalidated if you use granular fertilizer. I don't know that I've ever used a plant warranty, so this didn't really change my mind on purchasing.

Overall, plant arrived in good condition- but I typically buy $20 roses not $60 roses. I would buy again if I was frantic to have a variety that only they had. This is obviously a larger and better branched plant than what I get for $20 from other vendors- but I don't mind being patient and waiting for growth and being able to buy 3 roses for the price of 1.

If you like starting with larger plants though, this is probably a good option. Just make sure that you are buying from Heirloom and not from some copycat vendor on Walmart.

This was the Heirloom seller page on Walmart.com at the time of this post:
